Welcome to the Rudloe and environs website.

Here you will find news, articles and photos of an area that straddles the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in north-west Wiltshire.

Contributions in the form of articles or photos are welcome. Even those with completely contrary views to mine!

Thanks to the website builder 1&1 and Rob Brown for the original idea.

Rudloescene now, in January 2014, has a sister, academic rather than anarchic, website about Box history here: http://www.boxpeopleandplaces.co.uk/

It contains thoroughly professional, well-researched articles about Box and its people.

Special Plants is a nursery in Greenways Lane, Cold Ashton. It has been described as "A treasure trove of plants" by Dan Pearson in The Guardian. 'Special Tuesdays' is a series of 29, thirty-minute talks over spring/summer/autumn 2023; talks start at 11am. Access is a tad difficult - Greenways Lane is a long, single-track lane off the A46 on the Bath side of the junction with the A420. The title picture shows the house (the design and renovation of which was by the architect husband of proprietor Derry Watkins) from the garden which is open on Special Tuesdays and also Wednesdays in July and August.

The garden has views (not particularly well illustrated in this photo!) of the upper reaches of the Lam or Swainswick Valley
Fleabane provides a thread along the boundary wall of this bed behind the house
The house and 'formal' borders from the garden
Structural grass with architect-designed outbuilding beyond
Pond with mature trees and an enticing glimpse of the valley beyond
