Welcome to the Rudloe and environs website.

Here you will find news, articles and photos of an area that straddles the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in north-west Wiltshire.

Contributions in the form of articles or photos are welcome. Even those with completely contrary views to mine!

Thanks to the website builder 1&1 and Rob Brown for the original idea.

Rudloescene now, in January 2014, has a sister, academic rather than anarchic, website about Box history here: http://www.boxpeopleandplaces.co.uk/

It contains thoroughly professional, well-researched articles about Box and its people.

Not steam but mist in Bathampton meadows on Wednesday 4th December 2019 - see further photos below including the chance sighting of the return leg of the diesel-hauled Belmond British Pullman

The information, including timetable information, given in the last steam webpage B1 & Castle - Nov/Dec 2019 left a bit to be desired so please find below the latest information for the two upcoming Bath Christmas Market specials (one on Saturday 7th December 2019 and the other on Tuesday 10th).

It seems that yesterday's (5th December 2019) 'special' hauled by Coronation 46233 Duchess of Sutherland was cancelled (I waited at the advertised arrival time at Bath Spa only to find the platforms devoid of other nerds (who clearly had better information than that available to me)). So let's hope that the following is bona fide information (it should be - I've checked and double-checked it).

On Saturday 7th December (not Sunday 8th as previously thought), A1 Pacific 60163 Tornado will be coming to Bath with a Christmas Market 'special' from Wolverhampton (Poiky Bloinders Countray). Relevant times are:

Wolverhampton - 08:03

Swindon - 12:04

Chippenham - 12:22

Bath Spa - 12:39

On Tuesday 10th December 2019, Tornado will again be making an appearance, this time via the Limpley Stoke Valley. Relevant times are:

Paddington - 07:14

Newbury - 09:10

Bathampton Junction - 10:35 (approx)

Bath Spa - 10:43

And on the other side of the valley is Bathford and St Swithun's with its Christmas cross; Bathford Hill (Farleigh Down) beyond
Earlier in the day, St Swithun's emerges from the mist above the riverside alders
