Welcome to the Rudloe and environs website.

Here you will find news, articles and photos of an area that straddles the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in north-west Wiltshire.

Contributions in the form of articles or photos are welcome. Even those with completely contrary views to mine!

Thanks to the website builder 1&1 and Rob Brown for the original idea.

Rudloescene now, in January 2014, has a sister, academic rather than anarchic, website about Box history here: http://www.boxpeopleandplaces.co.uk/

It contains thoroughly professional, well-researched articles about Box and its people.

Carters Steam Fair in Victoria Park, Bath on 13th August 2017. Pictures of the fair from previous years may be found under the Art & Culture section of this website, rather than Steam, as the fair is certainly relevant to both.

Yorky, the steam engine powering the yachts in the title picture, seen from beyond the merry-go-round
Fascinating information about the steam yachts - the only travelling steam yachts in the world (go and see - the fair is on until 20th August)
Fine artwork on the steam yachts ride - a tea clipper shown here, I believe. I wonder if Michael Dean is still around
The Victory Dive Bomber ride with fine artwork showing de Havilland Mosquitos bombing a German city (353,000 people were killed, principally by RAF Bomber Command*, in air raids on German cities during World War II)

* The article on this website here Bombing gives more information on this as do such books as The Bombing War by Richard Overy and Among the Dead Cities by A.C. Grayling

This rules us out on a number of counts
Part of the mechanism powering the Victory Dive Bomber
A Dive Bomber cradle
The Ghost Train
Ghost Train artwork
'A Lark in the Dark!'
Lights on the waltzer
Steam-powered?
The whole fair is for young and old
