Welcome to the Rudloe and environs website.

Here you will find news, articles and photos of an area that straddles the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in north-west Wiltshire.

Contributions in the form of articles or photos are welcome. Even those with completely contrary views to mine!

Thanks to the website builder 1&1 and Rob Brown for the original idea.

Rudloescene now, in January 2014, has a sister, academic rather than anarchic, website about Box history here: http://www.boxpeopleandplaces.co.uk/

It contains thoroughly professional, well-researched articles about Box and its people.

1st June 2017 and a portrait of life in Pickwick Road, Corsham before the General Election

(See the foot of this page for an Election Day 'report' on campaigning in the 60s and 70s)

26th May 2017 and a portrait of life in the Paragon, Bath before the coming General Election

4th June 2017 and a landscape in the London Road, Bath before the coming General Election
4th June 2017 and a rallying cry in a Fiveways garden at Stambridge, Batheaston

Part 2 - the landed and moneyed

1st June 2017 - clearly someone is rather upset with this landowner or perhaps with the Tory candidate
3rd June 2017 - this landowner went to a lot of trouble to boast to the passing commoners and clearly upset someone
3rd June 2017 - a fine morning at Ashley with a view spoiled by that Tory head poking over the hedge
3rd June 2017 and a rather retiring placard peeks over the hedges of the modest estate at Ashley
3rd June 2017 and this Batheaston estate supports the insidious filibusterer Jacob Rees Mogg
A future, like the past, where we have to kowtow to Nissan to keep jobs in Sunderland and go cap in hand to Peugeot to secure jobs in Luton?

Election Day, 8th June 2017 - we were reminded last night, on BBC2's Newsnight of how electioneering and the hustings used to be. Great footage in the programme, which can be found between minutes 44:00 and 49:10 through the BBC I-Player here: Newsnight - 7/6/2017, of Quintin Hogg (Lord Hailsham), Harold Wilson and George Brown dealing with hecklers in the 60s (Hogg used a stick to deal with one heckler - aaah the good old non-PC days). Political correctness, control and the virtual world have subsumed all walks of life. All our 'arguing' is done through social media or websites (like this one!). Control, as indicated in the Newsnight piece now dominates - no one would dare heckle at a Tory, Labour or Lib Dem husting - they would immediately be shouted down and/or removed - that's democracy for you (but actually, it's redolent of a police, communist or totalitarian state).
