Welcome to the Rudloe and environs website.

Here you will find news, articles and photos of an area that straddles the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in north-west Wiltshire.

Contributions in the form of articles or photos are welcome. Even those with completely contrary views to mine!

Thanks to the website builder 1&1 and Rob Brown for the original idea.

Rudloescene now, in January 2014, has a sister, academic rather than anarchic, website about Box history here: http://www.boxpeopleandplaces.co.uk/

It contains thoroughly professional, well-researched articles about Box and its people.

12th August 2023 finds us in Frome for the passing through (and stopping for water) of a steam excursion from Paddington to Minehead (see 45596 at Frome - Aug 2023).  The title picture shows St John the Baptist Church from the corner of King Street and Church Street.

The Three Swans and Frome Bookshop in King Street (bought two books - an non-PC Enid Blyton and the Diary of Herbert Spackman)
The Three Swans - lounge bar
Market at Cheese & Grain. Saw The Troggs, The Animals and Spencer Davis here in years gone by.
It's been a dreadful July and August for sleeping rough - this groundsheet behind the United Reformed Church in Whittox Lane
The River..........Frome
Ghost signs in Bath Street
This was the reason we came to Frome on this rainy Saturday - a steam excursion from Paddington to Minehead which stopped at Frome for water
This is the (start of) the 'etc' of 'Frome etc' - the indoor section of the enormous monthly flea market at Shepton Mallet showground
'Traditional' shop on the A363 (the Trowbridge/Frome road) in Bradford-on-Avon. Such shops are now few and far between.
The 18th-century, grade II-listed Swan Hotel in Bradford-on-Avon will close on 16th September 2023. Incredibly, this is one of 344 listed buildings in B-o-A. Afternoon tea was a last hurrah for us.
